Estelle and the 'Make Fair Trade Greener' Project 2007

Some english information of the project

Uusi Tuuli ry will realise a one year project called Make Fair Trade Greener, which is co-financed by the European Commission. The overall objective is to increase the knowledge of and the support for policies that are aimed at more equitable North-South relationships and environmental sustainability. The main activities of the project will be Estelle's informational tour and educational activities that will be organised in secondary schools. The activities in secondary schools will be planned and realised together with the official project partners Pangea (Italy), Gaia (Greece), KKG (Malta) and Libero Mondo (Italy).

The core of the project, will be the Estelle's awareness-raising tour in different Northern and Western European countries, also by participating on Tall Ships’ Race in Baltic. In each harbour, local NGOs working on development, Fair Trade and environmental issues will be invited to organise public events, such as small festivals and Fair Trade promotions, with Estelle as the focal point and the main attraction.

In Rostock, Estelle’s visit will be timed together with the G8 meeting that will be held there. Also many other German and European NGOs will be present in Rostock organising different side events such as seminars and mass demonstrations. In UK, Estelle participates in the celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade.

We are starting with this project in different parts working groups, which work among other things making and planning of exhibition which will be built to ship, publicity and school material planning.
